Expansion of the charging infrastructure
with Engineering Plastics
A well-functioning charging infrastructure has a significant influence on the market success of e-mobility. Without the creation of charging facilities in public, commercial and private places, a comprehensive conversion to electric vehicles is not feasible. With a portfolio of innovative high-performance plastics, LANXESS offers optimal and reliable material solutions for the production of components and charging plugs – whether for modern conventional charging stations or for inductive charging.
Our many years of development expertise in plastic components for the automotive, electrical and electronics industries form the basis for our electro-mobility solutions. We support you in manufacturing of trend-setting products – even with apparently contradictory material requirements. Thanks to their properties, our high-performance plastics are ideal for the production of circuit-breakers, terminals, housing components and connectors for charging stations and boards. Because HPM materials make charging systems lighter, more dimensionally stable, more heat-resistant and – depending on requirements – more conductive or even stronger in their electromagnetic shielding.

“For the expansion of the charging infrastructure, engineering plastics from LANXESS offer our customers a wide range of possibilities for tailoring the property profiles of different components.”
Stationary charging
From AC/DC charging stations at petrol stations and roads to public and commercial car parks and private properties, housings, plugs, connectors and charging cables are subjected to the highest loads. What matters here is that the base materials used to manufacture these components already have specific properties – and that permanently. Temperature behaviour, dimensional stability, warpage, stiffness and static load capacity: these are the properties that HPM high-performance plastics score points for. Our Durethan® and Pocan® grades offer you every opportunity to make targeted use of competitive advantages in terms of product quality, availability and cost-efficient production processes.
And this applies to growth markets worldwide – because the expansion of the charging infrastructure is a global issue. Almost every region currently has its own charging component geometry and corresponding performance features. These may place specific demands on the individual components and their basic materials. Our HPM solutions reliably meet all these requirements.
Inductive Charging
The wireless alternative to being connected to a charging station is inductive charging. By means of induction surfaces, the car battery is charged either stationary in car parks or in car ports and garages – or even automatically while driving via special road surfaces. This requires product solutions that are convincing in every respect: both in terms of the required material properties and from an economic point of view. Various Durethan® grades or thermoplastic composites such as Tepex® are the materials of choice in the manufacture of pallets, floor mounting covers and frames in cars and entire loading systems.

“Our Durethan grades as well as our thermoplastic composites such as Tepex are the materials of choice for the production of wallboxes, base and car pads for inductive charging and many other components in the area of charging systems.”
Our engineering plastics are ideal when it comes to low weight, low warpage, high heat resistance and high chemical resistance to ambient media. We tackle the implementation of your innovative applications together – with tailor-made and future-proof material solutions. For a functioning charging infrastructure.
